They were all ex-mercantile marines, and had to be able to row against the strong tide of the River Medway. He was admitted to the Freedom of the Fishery and of the Company of Free Dredgers of the City of Rochester on the Eighth day of May 1894 and a Freeman of the City of Rochester on Fourteenth day of July 1894.
